Re: Cheap stainless steel flasks at Home Bargains only £9.99
Hello Sanjuro'
The attraction of stainless steel flasks is of course their durability, being able to survive being dropped which is a great plus point. Unfortunately, I find they just don't keep the contents hot for any length of time (despite pre-heating with boiling water prior to filling). I would expect around 3 to 4 hrs to be the minimum acceptable for keeping liquids reasonably hot and that he never been achieved in my case.
Because of this, I recently found it necessary to revert back to flasks with a glass vacuum liner as they certainly do keep the contents 'piping' until required. I find that 2 X 0.5ltr examples fit the bill nicely for my purposes.
I simply have to be careful when transporting/handling them!
Thanks for the post and I hope you have better luck than I have done with them
Regards ss47

A disservice is no service at all in my book

I have three stainless steel flasks Thermos ,
Stanley , and an un-named one and all keep the liquids piping hot from 6.30 until i get home around 4 pm when i empty them they are that hot you can not put your hands in it.
Thermos have great reviews on the flask review sites (yes they do exist) on these sites they put the flasks in snow outside.
Also remember the bigger the capacity the longer it will keep the contents hot

My thermos steel flask does not fair well, but my Stanley is a different kettle of fish. It easily keeps my coffee hot enough to drink for 12 hours.
More than once I have had a glass sleeve jobbie fly off the passenger seat under braking , smash and empty its contents into the footwell.

Quality counts, I have used cheap flasks in the past but they never seemed to keep the tea hot enough till lunchtime. I now have a 1ltr stainless steel THERMOcafe flask made by Thermos, and now my tea is red hot at lunch time and we'll beyond.

I too have a Stanley flask (Alladin model - 1.7Ltr) it's a monster in size/weight but it certainly keeps liquids hot from breakfast to teatime. It was bought in 1995 so no complaints at all. Re: Cheap stainless steel flasks at Home Bargains only £9.99
depends a lot on the ambient temperature
minus temperature and on the outside of the rucksack is tough
put it I. the centre and its a different kettle of fish.
pre heat the flask first also helps. Freshly boiled water. Leave it 5 minites then re fill with boiling water.
This time of year most cheap flasks will do. When we get down close to freezing is when you tell the difference
Time will tell if the H&B will hold up in cold weather. One thing I have learned is cheap didn't always mean rubbish. just as expensive doesn't always mean better.

interesting read. Does confirm the larger the capacity the better.sanjuro wrote: ↑Thu Oct 11, 2018 6:07 pmI have three stainless steel flasks Thermos ,

Would have been nice if they poured some liquid out from time to time. I suspect those that you only have to unscrew a little bit would fair better than the ones you have to remove the lid. But it would have been nice to see hard data for this.
To take a reading they had to remove the top fully.
