You may find that the beach in that particular area contains a lot of stones/pebbles that are highly mineralised and therefore capactive - a common finding. The result being that it will cause your detector to indicate a capacitive target. Best to check it out before opening the wallet! ::g Hope you get it sorted before very long. ::g Regards ss47

Try it in your garden just to be sure....I got a field on my permission where my ace250 went berserk it never stopped!!! Even with sensitivity down to 1 notch I put it down to something underground etc

I've since upgraded to the makro racer a very good machine and that even struggled on the same field and it was down to high mineralisation had to put it in beach mode which has been tuned for wet mineralised sand..

Hope you get it sorted mate

As suggested try somewhere else as it could be the beach, Ace 250 is not know as the best machine on beaches although I have been OK on the beaches in Devon (North coast).

Have you taken the coil cover off and cleaned the coil and cover?.
If you have been doing beaches it could simply be sand has got in between the coil and cover.

As wirrel jeffo said try the coil from the 150, if problem goes away then you know its the coil (to confirm could try the 250 coil on the 150), if problem remains then its the control box.

If getting "funny" results always worth checking another location.
Today was out and got a strong but bouncing signal, as very hot and not a stable reading left it -
went on a few yards and got a strong but bouncing signal, too hot for digging scrap so left it -

Then realised that all the signals had been on the end of the swing to the right and as had been walking down a path made by horses was able to look back and see they formed a straight line - 99.9% sure it must have been a pipe of some sorts ;;z ;;z

I have a Garrett EuroAce, which is very similar to the 250, and it also went crazy on two separate occasions. It took me a little while to pin-point the problem but it turned out to be a dirty connector at the control box.

Disconnecting the coil from the control box and cleaning both the male and female sectors of the plug had me back up and running in rag-time.

Not saying that this is the root of your problem but it could be a cost effective first try. I only recently got the EuroAce out of mothballs and it played up in exactly the same way and I was able to go directly to the problem and resolve it.
