THIS is a big dont try your garret ace 250 on skegness beach and others close to there .The minerals in the sand kill all signals ,whether you up or down the sensitivity. the signal only goes to half an inch...should have read previous notices first..

Yep - avoid the wet / black sand and the Ace might come up with something:)

I'm probably being thick here but can someone explain to me what and where this black sand is? Are we talking literally, that the sand is actually black? I always thought this was of volcanic origin, so where in the UK might one find it?

Black sand is very fine and dense. Most sand beaches have it under the yellow stuff. Finds will fall through the yellow stuff. Imagine putting a coin on top of a jar full of sand and shaking it the coin will sink.

Hard pack is the same except its clay.


Tides will either add or take away the yellow stuff. If there is too much yellow sand on top old finds will be deeper than your detector will work
