Obvious, but check connections of coil and headphones and if there is anything under the coil protector. I've had particles cause issues before. Mine also goes a bit wobbly when the batteries are running low. Making sue you're in a clean area (no iron) when ground balancing is also important. On my farm, there is so much junk in gateways when I enter fields, I make sure I leave Iron Audio on to find a clean bit before balancing.

Apologies if anything is teaching Granny to suck eggs - I'd be interested to hear what they come back with too if it's not too onerous for you to relay what they say.

Cheers

As above and also try toggling the frequency in case it is electromagnetic interference. One of my permissions has an electric fence for the sheep which causes the detector to pulse every few seconds when switches on.

Try changing the frequency or move away from your current location 50mtr, wifi from one of my permissions farm house drives my AT mad until I'm well away from it.

Update on my AT Pro Oscillating problem, thanks for all your advice but the problem persisted so much so that I finally made the journey to Regton's of Birmingham to sort it out. After some discussion it was agreed that the circuit board was faulty and Regton's did an amazing job in replacing the control box even though the pro was out of warranty. Cost was very reasonable as well given that I was minded to purchase another machine. Well done Regton's top of the class. ::g
