Hello Steve, It seems you're considering using a Minelab Etrac, if so why not take a look through the Minelab 'Etrac sub-forum' which is furnished with all the information you could possibly want.

l;/ You'll find it over there. Regards ss47

OK sorry mate, I just thought it be quicker to ask the question. All info anyone would need has probably already been answered on here already so worried about asking questions now, thought that's what the forum was about? Cheers Steve

Absolutely right Steve it's always worth asking the question if it's not easily found. There's no need at all to apologise ::g The main advantage of using the 'search' facility, is the chances are that questions usually attract much more than a single answer/opinion which gives you the option of choosing which shows most merit to be the definitive answer .

All the best ::g - Regards ss47

Never worry about asking questions on this forum, as you will always receive helpful answers. ::g

I was quite inexperienced when I got my E-Trac in November 2016 but got tremendous help from this forum and another. Pondguru's videos on YouTube are also excellent for the E-Trac practicalities.

I can also highly recommend the E-Trac sub-forum on MDF as there is a whole library of information there. It would take several evenings to read through it all though, so the search facility is a must and works very well too.

Regarding your original question, only the coil is waterproof so I always use the Minelab control box protective cover. E-Trac is too expensive to risk getting it wet.

Also take care when carrying the e-track. I think it is a similar construction to my SE Pro, so don't tip the coil in the air if you have been using it near water as it can run up the shaft and into the control box.
