E-Trac Sensitivity. Auto+3 vs Manual.

Post by Wigeon » Sun Aug 05, 2018 12:17 pm

This morning I managed to get a couple of hours before it got too hot.

I have had my E-Trac for almost two years and have used it a lot.

For some time now I have been running in auto+3 with tadpole discrimination and toggling to manual sensitivity at maximum or thereabouts in all metal to check targets.

Noting the advice from experienced users to operate in manual and all metal, I have been trying to do so where the ground permits.

This morning Auto sensitivity was reading 17 and auto +3 reading 20. In manual I could get 27 without any problems, which was quite a surprise. 28 to 30 was noisy with lots of falsing.

Using the standard stock coil and auto noise cancel. Hardly any EMI at this location.

Three questions for the E-Trac experts please.

1. Is this what you would expect ?

2. Is 7 points on sensitivity significant regarding performance ?

3. Does which noise cancel channel one uses really affect performance ?

That is indeed really helpful thank you. ::g

I am using conduct/multi-tones, smooth response, which was a bit of a struggle for a start, particularly pinpointing. I stuck at it and now wouldn't use anything else.

Were you surprised at the difference between Auto+3 (20) and the manual sensitivity (28) or is that par for the course with the E-Trac ?

I am thinking that 7 or 8 points must be significant as it is around 25% of the whole scale (1-30) ?

Thanks again for the link.

As the link explains using manual will give you the best you can get from the Etrac
Auto features on any machine are for people who just want to walk into a field and use settings that will work
Manual settings are for the fiddlers in my opinion

As you say it is potentially 25% of its potential, now that doesnt necessarily add inches to your depth, but it could just bring that target into view that was 5mm out of range, or obscured by the presence of another target...
Good luck
