Pinpointer Causing Interference

Post by Wigeon » Sun Apr 09, 2017 8:03 am

I have a new Garrett Pro-Pointer AT which sometimes causes my E-TRAC to chatter madly when the pin pointer is switched on. I have tried using the Noise-Cancel, with the pin pointer switched off, which sometimes works and other times not.
I have thought of using the Noise-Cancel with the pin pointer switched on but have not plucked up the courage to do so, for fear of causing damage rl;. I am aware of being able to manually set the noise cancel but haven't tried that either.
Advice from experienced E-TRAC users would be appreciated please.

How far away from the coil does it cause chatter?

Still causes chatter for as far away as I can move the coil whilst still keeping the detector in reach, so five or six feet. I have the pin pointer set on medium sensitivity i.e. the factory default.

When i had my etrac i had it manually set to channel 2....Cant remember where i read a good article on it but it is worth researching....If i remember correctly the lower the number the more sensitive and deeper the machine.....
Auto noise cancel is ok but it is a machine with no emotions or feelings so will just look for the next clear channel to run with.....Mobile phones will also set it off
Remember if you noise cancel under pylons or near something then it will set a high channel which may not be suitable the further away you get from that interference
You cant ruin the machine by experimenting with manual noise cancel...
Give it a go

Thank you for posting this, I found it informative and helpful.
I can now solve the issue in two ways, firstly do an auto noise cancel with the pin pointer switched on or try setting the noise cancel channel manually. Job done, thanks for all the responses.

...or get some headphones with a kill switch and just knock them off when pinpointing...
