Minelab Vanquish 340

Post by nubsey »

I have just purchased a Vanquish 340. This is for use on the beach down at Leysdown, the Isle of Sheppey. As such it needs to be able to deal with wet sand. In this it succeeds. I have taken it out a couple of times and it does not give any back chat when on the wets stuff. I did drop it down a notch, on the really nasty beach a bit further down where there is black stuff a couple of inch's down. It was then faultless. My main concern with what is classed as a beginners machine is the lack of a pinpointer. On the beach it is not to bad as it is quite easy to dig, but on hard dry ground this could be a bit of a problem. Apart from that it is a cracking machine. It seems to achive good depth, but I have yet to carry out tests on just how far down it will go. I have dug up ring pulls at least 8 inchs down. These gave a good clean signal, as do bottle tops. I have only found a 50p so far and this was only about 4 inchs down, but again gave good signals. If you feel you need a pinpointer then you will need the 440 or above. But if you want a good steady starter machine then this one in my opinion is the top of the bunch.

Hope this helps someone.
