I recent got hold of a v6. I have been using the recommended beginner settings for this detector according to the manual (although I am an experienced detector user)
In air the detector discriminates nails, but in the ground they are giving a very good two way signal. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?
Discriminating nails ?

I don't have the bliss
But it a common problem on old analogue detectors
Air and real settings aren't the same, even my lawn isn't the same as an average field, where I would have to turn the sensitivity down slightly to avoid chatter and false positives
Usual solution is to use manual ground balance and tune it slightly positive
Or Sensitivity down
Or discrimination up
Or a combination
If you are right on the edge of maximum performance, nails bent at 90 degrees will occasionally give a good signal
