Ackworth Field

Post by sts »

Hi everyone

I am the owner of a small plot of land in Ackworth, near Pontefract, approximately 1.3 acres big. When we build our home many years ago we found several interesting things while digging and have always been curious to see if there was anything in the field.

The site is situated in an old priory next to the main Road which runs along the top of the old roman road - there has been some really good finds in the area in the past so I think it may be worth while investigating.

Anyone interested please contact me through this site.

Many Thanks
Sam

Hi Sam, and welcome. [81/]

That's a very nice offer.

Indeed a kind offer Sam - but you can easily detect a plot that size yourself - do you have a metal detector?

In that case I suspect there might be one or two members of the forum who would be happy to meet you [08/] Hopefully someone with a spare machine that you can use..? Sounds like an historically interesting area - presumably there are no restrictions such as scheduled monuments, etc. on your land?

If I was you I would buy a metal detector and give it a spin myself. You don`t have to spend a lot on a detector that will do the job. Just do a bit of homework before you buy.....Good luck, you`ll have great fun......... [81/]

Very kind offer that hopefully will help with the history of the field. 👌

As suggested with Phil, from the description of your field it's worth checking its not within any restricted areas such as scheduled monument or associated buffer zone.

Hi Sam,

I've sent you a private msg, I am only in Pontefract and more than happy to come up and we can search together using my equipment should you wish to.
