Suspect this to be the proverbial 'hedge fodder', but due to where it was found and the depth, looking for confirmation either way.

Copper-alloy with heavy iron staining. Looks like was perhaps designed to be hammered into something?
Know I've seen one before.

It looks like an iron eye bolt with the thread missing.
