Splitting finds with farmer

Post by tscott102 »

Hi

I recently found an Edward 4 groat and the land owner wants half the value. I mentioned i’d get a valuation on the coin but have no idea how I go about doing this, I'm looking for advice as to how I can value a coin?

Thanks in advance

See what people will want to bid for it online, plenty of buyers out there. Speak to or enter it into a suitable auction and let it make it`s money.........

Like Allectus said then work out the average selling price (maybe take some screenshots to show the farmer that you are being fair) and if you want to keep the coin pay him his half. [81/]

Most Edward IV groats aren't particularly rare or valuable (but obviously check first). I tend to just let farmers have anything they take a shine to just to keep them sweet. [81/]

On my 2 large permissions I have a simple agreement with the landowners which is I keep anything that is valued below £100... Anything above that I offer them 50% or equivalent in wine! I've never sold.anything yet but have parted with a few bottles of wine and gifted them a few hammies and bits of Roman stuff that they were interested in.....
An easy agreement agreed over a beer in the pub as both landowners are neighbours and friends.

For valuation I follow the Allectus methodology of t'internet!

Best wishes to all as ever

I'd probably do it the same way they do with any Treasure Act finds you may have made which is look at what similar objects sold for in reputable auctions (not Ebay) and come up with an average.
