The theory is that low conductors is better for small hammered but whenever I try it the machine never feels "right", it is just too jumpy. Personally I use ATG 100% of the time on land and have no complaints, it feels really stable and I find some tiny items so I don't feel I'm missing much. If you want to convince yourself set ATLC and ATG (and ATHC) up exactly the same (audio, Fe limits and recovery), detect in one of them and try each when you come across a target. I have yet to come across a target that I can't hear in all three however it is difficult to prove that there are targets which you would have stopped for in one mode and not in the other.

I’ve found cut half’s using ATG and having tried all modes I now use ATG 99% of the time as it doesn’t miss anything, having found a target I have flicked through the modes but cannot say they are any better, I mainly hunt on pasture.

Yep, same here, I tend to use ATG 99% of the time. I tried low conductors for a couple of hours in some woodland looking for hammered coins but didn’t get on too well with it, just kept being confused by air rifle pellets so went back to ATG.

I’ve had plenty of very small pieces with ATG including a cut quarter and thin copper alloy.
If it is difficult you are doing it wrong

Yes i have done very well with low conductors. Especially small hammered.
Cut quarters and half's. Farthing and half penny's right up to full penny size.
even small Romans. Mainly use it on market sites.
Saying that ATG is very good for most hammered for general detecting.
Fast is great for iron infested areas great target separation but not as deep. [08/]

As with most machines the more that you ramp up the various discrimination features the greater the reduction of depth and sensitivity. The 'problem' that I have with the Manticore is that once you work out how to maximise performance there really is very little reason to play around with the settings except in some very specific circumstances. I tend to use different coils and swing speeds to deal with site conditions rather than making adjustments.

It seems to me that the main control to get the hang of is reducing Ferrous 1&2 to a bare minimum. Once you've cracked that and realised that you don't need to max out Sensitivity most of the rest is just practice and personalisation.

I'd be very interested to know if anyone detects with the Manticore without using the screen as it seems to me that its accuracy is one of its strongest features for dealing with iron. [81/]

So been on low conductivity for some while on a site that has plenty of history and even produced a superb norman hammerd, what I've found using the low conductivity is it is really sensitive to very small bits and I struggled to even find a cut half due to the amount of lead and green metals being found, however it became very frustrating as every few steps was just good signals good numbers and all on the line were decent targets should be how ever I went back to general and things become less hectic and found some silver cuts and some complete with less lead both programs are the same other than low conduct and general little frustration with it as maybe its what I've been missing over the years on the site and low is just better on the small stuff and there is that much about the site others have missed any help to stand a chance of a nice norman hammerd lol
