Great finds. The sand is much kinder to old copper coins than earth for sure. Got a pic of the hallmarks on the gold ring?

Great finds from a beach.
The Watch Winder is one of the most elaborate i have seen.
Georgian coins are like mint, compared to those we find inland.
Cheers,
Dave.

You did well. With a lot of the old copper coins I get from the beach the detail is wiped clean, nothing left. With the one`s from land they tend to retain their detail better. Had a little farthing just before Christmas from land in amazing condition I would`nt get that from the beaches I do. Good luck.

For reasons that I don't fully understand, but possibly because they are copper not bronze, Georgian coins often come off of beaches with good detail. I found this cartwheel penny a couple of months agoKevinB wrote: Fri Dec 27, 2024 11:36 am You did well. They were only made for one year so they are all 1797.KevinB wrote: Fri Dec 27, 2024 12:35 pm Cracker, that`s the way you want them. What year is that Fred?......

As Fred says, the Cartwheel Penny is only found bearing the date 1797 despite it being produced for around three years, the die was not changed. In contrast, the Cartwheel two pence was produced in 1797 and then in 1798 it was redesigned with a new die bearing 1798. I remember reading in Coins and Medals magazine (1960's) that the Cartwheel Two Pence shows Britannia holding aloft an olive branch featuring 11 leaves instead of the 10 showing on the Cartwheel Penny. Not a lot of people know that (as not said by Michael Caine) Cheers Eric
A disservice is no service at all.
I found this cartwheel penny on the beach , using my Vallon . condition not as good as Freds but still a nice coin.
