Slithering out of bed at 0800hrs it was immediately obvious that I was alone. Marie had fled the coop with her sisters to do family things. Things to do. Had a few. Two loads of wash, dishes, making the bed (not) and getting myself moving which I could tell I was doing by the creaking of my bones! Made the mistake of turning on the television becoming immediately enthralled by the series on Tubi called "Detectorist." Mister man that sure got the mojo going but had things to do while trying to dig was just a dream, a desire that could not be shaken nor stirred. By the time season one was watched everything inside our abode was completed, put in order and ready to go...like me out of the house! Checked the tide charts before I left and there was a clear window of opportunity. Phoned Navy Davy to wish him the best for the New year and limped out the door with Zen Guru (AT Pro) in tow. Not to mention a list of things yet I had to do.
The list; go to the post office to get some mail out, Atlantic Superstore for some treats for the evening, Canadian Tire for bulbs for my Honey Bunny's wheels along with oil for Nogo Sojo, M&M store for some Asian treats, Fisherman's Market for a lobster for the "boss', lottery booth for some tickets on the next draw and cash in a stash of winners, get Nogo gassed, and finally to the smart shop for wine, beer and rum. Done!
Was in the area of the park on the Bedford Basin. A good place to start! Chomping at the bit from the wall to the low tide mark I began to sing with no great expectations as this area had been jack hammered by many including Navy Davy and I. Zero pro mode with no discrimination. Felt brave as the sun was shining and I having the place to myself. First coin was a loonie which raised my expectations...why I do not know other then I was swinging on the last day of 2024. Lord love a duck...rounded the wall and there they were. About 20 of the little quackers quaking away. Then the penny parade began. Then the pain began which was self inflicted as I stumbled on a slippery rock turning my good knee to match my bionic knee. At this I cursed using up my entire vocabulary of cuss words save for including those directed at the "Big Guy." 45 minutes into the dig I was not in the state to dig anymore. Pain impaired...crap! Turned off Zen Guru stumbled to Nogo who like myself was a no go till I put the petal to the metal....hissy fit I say.
Once home I stripped (not a pretty sight) throwing my clothes into the bin that I had cleaned out previously when I did the wash. From there it was to the shower were I boiled myself till the "kettle " went dry. Marie appeared as if in a vision especially since she has been so busy with dealing with her elderly parents. She fell under my spell as we started a new tradition....show on new years eve. Gladiator 11 was the film which was as good as the first one. Once home it was time to watch the USA face off against Canada.....GO CAnucks!
To all you diggers may the upcoming year be as good as the last but not as good as the next. Be safe!
