Research Resource for Horse-related Metal Detecting Finds?

Post by LemuelNZ »

Hello, can anyone point me to any useful guides for better understanding the function of the many horse related finds that come up while detecting.

Are there any useful research resources that illustrate, for example, the evolution of horse bosses, pendants, mounts, harness buckles, and how they were used? Especially anything with diagrams? I'm getting better at identifying some of the basics, but would love to see some illustrations to help me better understand their function or/and intended appearance, and how they evolved through the centuries.

Is there a book or thorough online guide that focuses on equine-related metal detecting finds?

Museum of London published a book called The Medieval Horse and its Equipment, a couple of links below but there are various available if you do a search, including a free download but I don't know if it is a "legal" download so I won't put the link here

Thank you very much! I'll check it out. Looks like just the sort of resource I'm looking for.
