Insuring your finds

Post by Tang .233 »

Afternoon dirt fishers👍

How do i go about insuring my dirt fished coin finds ??
Has or does anybody know how i would go about it at all, the reason i ask is simply because i've gotten a valuation for my Eadger penny ( for insurance purposes) from Noonans , Brad suggested that i was to get it insured for £6500🤯🤯(mind blown) I dont think my household insurance would cover that, any help/advice would be very much appreciated many thanks all 👍

You can itemise things on your household insurance e.g. single rings etc. Not sure if they would want a proper valuation done on the coin. Items such as diamond rings are easy to clasify but rare coins, where condition also counts, may need more.

Its a rather fine example , i shall get in- touch with my insurer. Thankyou

I'd agree that your insurers are the best people to ask. For particularly valuable coins / collections, as an alternative it might be worth considering a bank safety deposit box, which should be covered by the bank's insurance (although sometimes isn't). The Halifax for instance charge £200 a year for a small box - depends how secure you think your house is and how the costs compare with insurance premiums etc.

Superb coin by the way!

That depends if you wish to look at your finds or just lock them away? [42/]

I added my collection which I self assessed for value and added it to my house insurance. My partner had a collection of gold coins given to her from her mother which had a reasonable value so added them as well. Didn't make much difference to the premium but the small print did say they should be kept in a locked safe. That isn't a bother as a few button presses gets them out again but is worth looking at.

I am sure there are specialist collector insurances as well if you go looking.

Alternatively, to save on additional costs, just do what everyone did before insurance/banks/safes/etc and bury your precious items by moonlight in a secret location.....
