From 15 inch to 9 inch

Post by joeski70 »

Hello All

Just a question around coils...

I have been using only the 15 inch coil for a nox 800, for years and it's served me very well.

I have switched to manticore, a lovely progression, and very much learning still. Naturally I have only used the 15 inch coil here too.

It seems obvious that to winkle out a few more finds in well detected pasture is to try a smaller coil - get into difficult corners too! I am not too worried about losing the huge muscle definition on the right arm from the heavier coil!!

My question is, swapping coils when the 9 inch arrives..

Can I just "plug and play" or are lots of tweaks needed / advised

Many thanks all

I would try it first with your existing 15" settings (what are they btw?) perhaps drop the recovery to 4 if you are using 5 or 6.

But if you are already confident with the 15", the 9" will be a dawdle to use!

Cheers, I did hope it would be an easy swap!

I am no technophobe, put in some settings off YouTube to make the manticore sound exactly like the 800 on tones to make me more confident (otherwise would get withdrawl symptoms!!)

Then a " beast" program I found off YouTube, but in all terrain general, not fast.

Finding lots and sounding familiar to my ears, so very happy so far, hence the worry of swapping coils, as wouldn't know how to revert settings as hate tinkering and have forgotten how I set it up before first use already!😁

Despite being in the 'bigger is better' brigade I actually like the 9 inch coil very much indeed. It is rock steady stable, only an inch or two less deep than the 11 inch coil and on 'busy' sites it gets in amongst the iron and trash brilliantly. [81/]

I am willing to be converted!

Have heard some good things about smaller coils, and have a site with iron which has stopped producing - hopefully the smaller coil can get amongst it and find the missed bits👍

A less sore arm is just a bonus!

I was very intrigued by your feedback on the M9, I immediately understood that you are very satisfied with the performance, after careful consideration, the hesitations disappeared, also because the depth seems similar to the M11 by virtue of the fact that the sensitivity that can be set is superior and the ability to find very small objects more easily appears fantastic.
I just ordered it and I will try it on my sites richest in iron trash.
Thank you for sharing your experience, certainly the lightness and the greater depth compared to the M8 are very interesting, I will let you know how it goes!
Just one question, what recovery do you usually use, 5 can be optimal or is 4 better?

I use a Recovery Speed of 4 or even 3 if the ground is reasonably clear and 5 if it's very trashy. The other settings can be more or less the same as with the other coils although you still need to find exactly the right swing speed as it's slightly different for each coil. [81/]
