Ace 150/250 for seven year old

Post by jarrett »

Hi Folks,
Grandson has taken an interest in md and am looking for a s/hand 150/250 for him but had a thought, can the stem be shortened enough to be usable for him? he is i would say average height.
Thanks.

I'm sure something could be sorted to make it shorter. One word of caution the 150/250 is not waterproof and use wired headphones. As the range is getting on a bit you should pick up a reasonable 250 for a good price. Good luck and happy hunting. [81/]

Thanks Haggz,
What would you say is a fair price? seen a few on the auction site and prices vary quite a lot but do not want to spend a mint in case he gets fed up with it.

Just a word of caution I have read over the years that even a 150/250 can still be a little too heavy for some in that age group, it maybe ok for a few minutes but swinging the machine for longer periods of time will quickly cause fatigue.

I’m pretty sure that detectors specifically made for children are available to buy new.

Personally I would be looking at this option as I believe that they are reasonably priced.

Garrett do a children's model of the Ace 200i, but it might be worth looking into some other models first as the Garrett is rather pricey and surprisingly heavy and cumbersome for what's branded as a child's detector.

Just had a look... Spoilt for choice in the "rainforest". If you don`t like what you get just send it back and go again, easy........ [81/]

It's important to ensure you don't purchase a 'far east' lookalike copy resembling the genuine article. For all auctions and the outlet sounding like a South American river - Caveat Emptor applies! Now got a 150 for him and surprised how light it is compared to my old c scope 1220, might get a 250 for myself just for the weight as i do struggle at times.
