Six pounds Congreve rocket warhead

Post by Flamsteed »

I found next to the nine-pound bullet: https://www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk/v ... p?t=160051
in an area full of 19th century military remains.
It was some kind of projectile unknown to me.

I think [42/] it might be the warhead of a Congreve rocket, a Post 1815 model with a central guide stick, 2.25 inches in diameter and six pounds.

I would like to know what members think and if anyone can think of another possible identification.

Diameter: 57mm, heigth 78mm, weigh 622gr, hollow.

Puke Ariki (New Zeland) & Puerta de Patria (Paraguay) Congreve rockets.

No idea at all, looks a superb find.
You may need to send photos to the Imperial War Museum, Royal Armouries or something like that.
Cheers, [81/]
Dave.

You got me stumped there. lol. It certainly looks the same as the example on your last pictures, but I can’t help any further. I would recommend signing up to the British Ordnance Collectors Network or the International Ammunition Association web forums, someone might have one in there collection and could confirm. Cool thing to find! ::g

Best regards,

Thank you (2:) . I will register on the forums.
I have also found news of rocket use in the area in the 1830s.
