Very strange. The PO headstamp has got me a little stumped.

Is it 57mm tall Fishy ? If it is then it is a British version of the German 7.92mm, used in the BESA mg in British tanks.

Thought so :) still not tracked the manufacturer down, (only hit for a 'PO' head stamp is a Spanish company), unless there is another letter after the 'PO'? The 40 is the year of manufacture and it is a BESA 7.92mm round as used in Churchill tanks.
