thanks andy. It may be an isolated incident. But we have been saying that about all the other things.
I have had the coil bolt break. overload over 69 and coil lug break. I have only used it for about an hour. Makro have been great and replaced everything but if this one is going to hit everyone it will be a straw too far.

Yeh it is a big one this as it has severed wires in the control panel. It's not a fix like the coil bolt where they can send a new bit out it needs either replacing or professionally repairing and I don't particularly want to foot the bill to send it back to Turkey

I will keep everyone updated

In the video, if you look at the side of the tube opposite the wire hole at 24 seconds, the break seems darker and thinner than the rest of it. there may have been a fault in the tube.

Yeh it does a bit doesn't it. Your maybe right and I really hope its a one off

Very strange, its snapped inside when there's an extension on the control box which is designed to take any stress on the stem.

Yeh I see your point, I think though that because I had all the stem locks tight so there was no wobble the weakest link went which just happened to be where it snapped

I assume you were not fighting off a bear with it?

Haha no we don't get many of them round here just fresh cut pasture so it should not of caused a problem, I use quite a slow sweep speed as well so no mega g forces haha

It is literally in the dead centre of the control box and I can see the weakness where it has happened. For whatever reason there is a 8mm hole drilled through the stem and this is where it has broken away, the sideways swinging back and forth has caused pressure where the hole is drilled just after the bend.

Unfortunately there are a lot of delicate wires running round that part and I can that it has frayed at least 2.

The hole is 12mm it is nearly the whole side of the pole it only has 4 small wires coming out of it.
I can see a lot of problems with this when the weather gets colder and fatigue of the metal.

Now that's bad design..

I admit I can't make out much from those pics, but that hole is enormous, especially relative to the tube diameter. Is that tube smaller than 'normal' ? Most machines use 7/8" (0.875 inch, 22.22mm) for their main shafts, and 3/4" for the lower plastic rod.
12mm is also far bigger than the cables that pass through it. I think they are likely to be about 1.2mm diameter, and there's 4 of them? a 4mm or 5mm hole would be OK, not too hard to thread them through. My hunch is they have fitted a connector on the end of those 4 wires, and then made a big hole so the connector passes through. The T2 / F75 have bare-ended wires, which can be threaded through a smaller hole, these are then soldered directly to the circuit-board on the control housing.

Hello andyb, This is bad news indeed and was obviously a big 'spoiler' on your session! It will be of concern to all us 'Racer' owners and I'm sure it will be followed avidly by all!
Having said that, I personally, am confident from my own dealings with Makro (and especially Cavit Arslam) that your issue will be dealt with promptly and fairly by Makro and I for one, have no regrets about the potential for the 'Racer' in the detector market. I've always considered that all newly released products require a period of 'real time' use as a form of 'in service testing' to be able to fully assess them.

The very nature of this weakness/fault will be seen as a real concern to those who have purchased or are considering purchasing the 15 inch coil which obviously has the capacity to place greater stress on the Racer's stem assembly than the stock coil supplied.
