Hi all..just turned on my control unit tonight and my hot program has the 6.4 mistake so a fresh update is needed but from reading that some coils have died in the process of reupdating v4 I'm very reluctant in doing it.instead I'll make the adjustment and save it on one of my custom slots until we find out what is causing coils to die.I was running the beta v4 but when the official v4 was released I rolled back to v3.2 first then updated to v4 just in case updating over a previous v4 caused problems.
Just one other thing I've noticed since updating to beta v4 and the official one is that when turning on my control unit if I press the power button to quick the unit won't find my coil but holding the power button down for a couple of seconds it picks up the coil.not sure if it's just my deus but I never noticed this when I was on v3.2.

Try sweeping for hidden files after uninstalling the install, taking a copy of the bios, doing a chkdsk, a complete system restart... (not forgetting the anti virus update) ... and normal service should be resumed... hopefully, fingers crossed ... and full moon permitting!!! <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P

I'd removed the old XP software from your PC, reboot, download the new XP software, reboot again. Make sure everything if fully charged, the usb lead is seated properly , then you should be ok. I had the same issue with the Hot being set at 6.4, I did what I have described and it went all ok.

The point of my post is that one should be naturally sceptical of technology ... update at your own risk. That said that there are many people willing and able to update safely, though as the experience of some posters prove... its not always plain sailing. I was only trying to be helpful in a very light hearted way. Maybe I have a perverse sense of humour, but I do have one.

There is clearly an issue with the first V4 release update as said, then Xp "patched" it then some people now have issues with dead coils. Contact your supplier and seek advice.
Too many many coils have fried since this update.. XP need to react and inform people asap of this situation...
The suppliers seem to be stumped so im sure they are doing what they can to help

Yup early adopters of anything new nowhere days seem to be part of the test phase.Kudos to xp for making the deus upgradeable but for how long this upgrade has been going on for you would have thought dead coils wouldn't be an issue and all there would be is slight teething problems.I'm damn sure v4 will be a great upgrade in the end as for suppliers there doing a grand job

.like you say we just need to hear from xp that there is a problem.

I updated to v4 on Wednesday, 3 coils and 2 headphones, no issues. Performance using HF was same as v3.2,which was as expected. I did not have time to try new programs. Just need the pinpointer now.

No problem oldlartefact just seemed that a couple of your comments were rubbing salt into the wounds of people who have lost the use of there coils.I know I wouldn't be to happy and I'm sure you would feel the same way if you wasn't able to detect for some days while you're coil was in for repair.xp must be getting feedback from there stockists and trawling through md forums for v4 issues.at the end of all this will be a stable v4 but for now it's all part of the process.

Mine had the 6.5 and not -6.4. On reading the issue with fried coils I have altered it manually and saved as a new Hot in slot 11 rather than risk it (for now at least!)

You hit the nail on the head EP ...in life you generally get what you ask for ... site your greenhose near the next door neighbours garden ... you can expect to get your windows smashed by the kids football... link up your beloved machine to the World Wide Web and you can expect an invasion of the Gremlins ...
You will see from my earlier posts that I stated clearly I am a tehnophobe ... so no suggestion that I am rubbing salt into wounds ... that said I am gonna have to move that Green house!!!!
edit ... believe it or not I have been using computers at the sharp end (programming) on a professional basis since 1986... so I have seen first hand the total mess that can come from using technology ... in the early days we had a saying ... "Humans make errors ... but it takes a computer to really f things up" ... its a saying that has gone out of common usage, that said the observation is as valid today as its ever been... only things can go wrong on a much wider and devestating level than was likely in the good old days.
