VOTE NOW!: Which V4 Setting Do You Use on Pasture?

Post by samuraitrev » Tue Apr 17, 2018 4:57 pm

Hi all,

I'd just like to know what Program you use. I'd also like to see any custom programs or setting tweaks you have been successful with. ::g

My "Fernhill" pasture settings, been using this for a while and it's been good for me.
Adjust GB and Sens for local conditions and go find nice things.....

Disc -3 (minus)
4 tones=
202 (disc)
202 (iron, break at 10)
502 (maybe digs 10 to 30)
800 (30 to 99, attention grabbing dig me)
Sens 93
TX power 2
Frequency 12K
Iron vol 1
Reactivity 2
Silencer -1
Audio response 4
Use XY screen for more target info

Best Regards

Hi Trev, An interesting survey which you will no doubt get many different answers but still be none the wiser. If you can add the factors of varied ground conditions such as whether wet/dry or clean to heavily iron contaminated to your survey then the results will no doubt be more meaningful for you. ::g

So 901 tone is "maybe digs" and also "attention grabbing digs", how do you tell the difference?
13khz? x; :D

Mates prog which I'm about to give a go !!!!!
This seems to work very well for me on my test bedd and in the field....
V4 software.
Screen mode xy
Disc -5.4
2 tone tone 1-120 tone 2 -665
Sens 85-95 as high as you can get it.
Freq- low for depth on med-large targetd and high for small nearer durface targets.
Iron vol 0
Reactivity 0
Silencer -1
Audio resp 5
Notch 00-09
Gb pump, then manual minus 2 from whater it sets at.
Dig all repeatable signals unless you see a definite line in top left and bottom right. Anything else especially flat lines dig. The flat lines are often good targets at depth.

Morning easylife,

I use it as a 2-tone program. If I get continuous issues with shotgun shells or particular waste then I use one of the settings to set that at 202 and effectively notch it out and mark it as iron. If it’s a good signal then I dig, if it’s even with a sniff of a good tone then i’ll dig. There’s always the odd horseshoe that comes in at 70+ but with the XY I expect it to be that.

I would like to see XP release 8 or 10 tones so that the tonal notch/discrimination could be used without having to actually notch anything out.

Kind Regards

Ju

Sorry,

I forgot to say, with a HF 9” coil, I’ve set the frequency of the coil to its lowest possible value using the expert settings. I don’t see any benefits at using the 28/54 frequencies in the areas that I dig.
Smallest target to day of any purpose is a 16th of a hammie . .

Reactivity dropped to 1 and swing speed a little slower.

Disc 5 or 10

Used with 11" coil 18khz

Will switch to full tones if I want to hear the iron and track changes.

Hi Nick,

If it helps, I started from Deus Fast. However, it does not matter and this is because once you start to tweak all settings then it actually does not matter. There are a couple of exceptions to these and these include Goldfield.

Hope this helps

Kind Regards

It's your choice. Prog 3 Fast is based on V3.2. Prog 6 Deep is based on V2.0 so less filtering. The rest are mainly based on V4.0/4.1. Whatever program you use as a base will only have the effect of the filtering applied to that base software version, but everything else is equal. ;)

I'd just like to say thank you to everyone for taking part in this poll. On Sunday, I'm going to bury a silver coin in the field and see which program GMP, DEEP or HOT responds the best. I'm aware it's not the most accurate of tests due to leeching whilst in the ground etc. but I do think it's a pretty valid test to get a general idea. I think the issue has been (with me at least) has been just sticking to HOT regardless of the ground conditions. The reason for this is: I'm so familiar and comfortable with the feedback I get from HOT.

Your feedback and tweaks has given me some ideas and the impetus to try Programs that had been hitherto neglected.

Many thanks all
