Silver Domitian Denarius found. Any chance of ID on other items?

Post by Roughwood » Tue Apr 17, 2018 7:09 pm

Hello All.
I was back on my small field on Saturday. This is the one which saw a lot of action during the second world war and has a lot of junk in one area - but including some American buttons and a few other bits and pieces from that era.
However, on Saturday, I concentrated on the furthest corner from all that, where older things have come up previously. To my surprise, I found a silver Roman coin (my first Roman :) ) and a fragment of 'something' very close to that.
Sadly, the coin is missing a chunk - I spent ages searching to see if I could find the other bit, but no luck. Hopefully there is enough on the coin for an ID. I didn't do anything to it other than clean off the mud with water - just in case I had a repeat of the 'hammered horror' where I broke one when cleaning it.
Very close to the coin, I found the curved fragment which has a sort of serated pattern on one edge, and a very tiny hole that goes right through it. I'm hoping this might be Roman also, but it probably isn't... Both this and the coin were no more than 4 inches deep.
The pictures are via Dropbox, so you can zoom in on them. I have also included pictures of a couple of other items recovered in the same area. May not be anything, but any ideas would be welcomed. The large light coloured thing is possibly lead, very heavy for it's size.

Conditions were still pretty muddy and the detector was in Discrimination mode - sensitivity 8, discrimination 3. (Not a lot more I can do with it!)
I also lost the cup off my flask down a rabbit hole. Sorry for boring you all. :D
