Facebook Permissions

Post by KernowViking » Tue Apr 17, 2018 7:50 pm

Evening all!

I decided to take a leaf out of another members book, and try the old Facebook for permissions.

After conversing with Mike for a little while I decided to pen a short note to post to 3 local 'Notice Board' pages.

Low and behold, I've recieved 2 new permission!

One of which is a farm with a know Iron age village underneath, and the other is a pair of fields behind a pub, in which is a medieval well, an open spring, and an adjacent 15th century church, built on top of an 8th century Monastry!

Who says facebook is good for nothing?

I'll going to each of the sites this week to talk further with the land owners, so watch this space!

Well done in taking the iniative and shows that it can only help more in finding permissions. ::g a couple of excellent permissions, good luck and happy hunting. :))

I am still on the "knocking on doors" and usually get an ok go ahead.

I've got to be honest, knocking on doors frightens the shingles out of me!

I was lucky in that my boss has a farm, and i'm a chef/barman at the local pub, so it's handy to be able to talk to the locals.

Wow well done! I have been thinking of doing the same but the local clubs post on them every now and again and never seem to get any responses.

PS= If you need help covering all that land I'm happy to help lol. :D

Thank you Saki! I'm just hoping there's not been too much digging on the iron age site! There was a boom of building about 50 years ago in the area, but this part of the village is largely untouched

There's not a great deal of club activity in my area (not that i'm aware of anyway!) And talking to some farmers metal detectinf activity seems to be rather sporadic. For example, one fella I know is asked by 3 or 4 different people in the space of a month or 2, then nothing for 4 or 5 years!

In all honesty, I have thought about buddy'ing up, as I really feel I still need to learn the ropes. But all of my permissions have said I'm only allowed to bring Mrs Viking.

So unless you want to pop a wig on?

This is a good point, Andy. However I have made sure that both are legitimate. Luckily I know quite a few people in the local area I can trust with not telling everyone where I'm detecting and why!

Too much information! Or not enough....

Anyway...

I'm in Lizard, and my permissions are all on the peninsula, so no more than 15 mile from home

Great news and congrats on the new permissions, I think in the current age Facebook, Email, Twitter etc are all potentially great sources for permissions - well at least asking!

What I like about it is that people know I'm looking, and have approached me in their own time without my big face popping up at their front door while they're just trying to chill out and watch Scooby Doo while waiting for the next milking!

Great news KV, hope all goes well. Your sites have good prospects but as in life nothing is guaranteed, you will just have to find out for yourself. Looking forward to your finds. ::g

Hi KV, what text did you use on Facebook? I've been looking at posting on my local pages but haven't come up with the wording yet.
good luck with your permissions. ::g

Hi Andi, I was just honest in telling people a bit about myself, what I was looking for and why. I made a point of mentioning my NCMD membership, as both permissions did say they approached me because I "didn't seem to be a christmas present hunter"

The Facebook thing appears to be a short lived experience by the look. As of ... may I think .... users will be required to opt in to being user tracked ... in order to enjoy Facebook ... if you choose not to .... you'll either lose your account or get a quite restricted service - reactive policy due to being hauled over some coals last week.

I find myself less and less active these days. It's a big push of what they choose for you to see. I'm finding out news my friends have shared days ago.

I do use the messenger app on my phone, simply for ease of connection, but for Facebook itself, I agree it's all going to change soon
