A couple of finds and a nice view

Post by Roberts » Tue Apr 17, 2018 7:57 pm

Went out for an afternoon detection and the day was sunny and finally dry, the field had just been turned and i had my eye on this sector since a few months but was not able to detect until now.

No real finds only a couple of coins with no images (one coin french 1920 in ok state) and a small aluminium brooche from the 19/18th century. The brooche was missing the center piece and i imagine it might of held a coin or some sort of medal but could not find it around the imediate area. :(

The photos i added of the surrounding area is the foot of the alps near the French city of Grenoble and it is in a valley, the other side of the mountains is switzerland and italy so the valley is considered a passage to these countrys and has been used as such for millenia.

I have detected around this area for about a year but so far i have only found stuff from the 16/17/18th century. There is probably roman or medieval in the area but really hard to find so far.

Just a few photos of my area for the pleasure of sunny days. ::g

The brooch appears to be Art Nouveau C1890s and although aluminium had been around since about 1825 discovered in (Denmark), I'd suggest pewter rather than aluminium - (unless of course it's silver)! :-O
Great scenery too ::g Regards ss47

You are sharp.. I didnt know that..
Attempts to produce aluminium metal date back to 1760.[50] The first successful attempt, however, was completed in 1824 by Danish physicist and chemist Hans Christian Ørsted. He reacted anhydrous aluminium chloride with potassium amalgam, yielding a lump of metal looking similar to tin.[55][56] He presented his results and demonstrated a sample of the new metal in 1825.[57][58] Ørsted was not convinced that he had obtained aluminium[58] and gave little importance to his discovery;[59] a different source suggests he could not continue his research because of financial reasons.[60] Because of this and that he published his work in a Danish magazine unknown to the general European public, he is often not credited as the discoverer of the element;[58] some earlier sources went further and claimed Ørsted had not in fact isolated aluminium.[61]

Wow looks like a nice area

I was out Sunday. Had to keep moving. Stay still too long and you would sink into the mud never to be seen again.

Thanks for all the replys :) ::g

Interesting to know about the discovery of aluminium didnt know that it was Denmark that were the inventers.

It will take a few months to do the whole area as there is more behind "the photos", it was a swamp up until about 200yrs ago. (Hoping that the celtics threw some sacrificial gold artifacts into the swamp as stagnent water was a gateway to their gods) -=+:-P
