A couple of curiosities for ID please

Post by RossDG » Fri May 18, 2018 11:45 am

What do you reckon to these my learned forum friends?
Is the coin a contemporary forgery - it appears to be very thin silver over an iron core?

The lead object reminds me of the end of something like a guitar string - used to retain something?

Both found on pasture, the coin around 10cm, very scratchy signal, nearly didn't bother digging it! The lead object was around 20cm, very clean signal.

Thanks in advance as always..

Not quite solid silver :)) . My seven George III shilling contemporary forgeries all have none ferrous copper alloy cores with little remaining silver plating.

Does look like a cable end or anti tamper seal.

The coin is unusual in having an iron

The lead item does look like a cable end, but there is no trace of a cable or anything else, just this cast lead thing which has a casting sprue, but nothing going through it...but seems a specific shape.

Almost certainly cut off by a set of side cutters.
