Underwater detecting

I have recently thought about underwater detecting at the beach in Devon (if it’s warm enough!!) can you use regular metal detectors underwater and protect the control panel somehow?? Or is a scuba tector the best bet?? I have the Garrett 400i. I have seen videos of people seemingly using full size detectors underwater, but have no idea what they’ve done with their control panel...
Does anyone have any advice or reviews on the scuba tector??
Thank you

Garrett sea hunter/ minelab Excalibur that I can think of are more diver friendly if s/h all seals will need checking .....land based detectors like you 400i I wouldn't want to go much more than ankle depth in case dropping them , dues with hf coil i now would be very careful of as batterys in the lower stem, though the equinox and others can go to 3m I believe... ring cmd/ regtons etc and ask would b the best thing or a local scuba club....you can get a pinpointer type of detector to use in the sea I think detectorbits do them.....

Make a coil extension cable (or get one made) so you can float the control box on the surface, while having the coil/shaft below, on the sea-bed. Waterproof as best you can the box with tupperware containers, plastic bags, sticky tape etc, etc, and float it using expanded polystyrene packing foam.
Obviously waterproof earphones with a long cable will be needed, but that bit is easy.

As i understand it you can not detect on the seabed in the UK just down to the low tide mark is legal maybe salvage laws apply if you you want to wade or dive in UK waters ?

Hi Em
Makro multi kruzer - perfect for the job - ip68 to 3 meters. Tried it by accident at beach when I fell off boat pier - all still works - including the kruzer - phew !!

Good old Devon coast water - just dont drink any .
