Well Worth the Effort

Post by Hawkeyes » Thu Jun 14, 2018 3:34 pm

Over the past couple of months, I haven’t been out swinging much at all due to work commitments and wanting to get my finds room/man cave/artefact preservation workshop finished. I completely gutted it as it needed a total re-fit, so that out of the way I managed a quick session yesterday and ticked off a bucket list find a complete Crotal Bell ring intact and sounds fascinating, not only has it not been seen for a few hundred years I actually get to hear the sounds of the past, elated!! Also it has the founders hammer mark within a shield just visible that helps date it to 16th – 17th century.
Other finds were what I think is an Annular Brooch the type that would have had a very loos wire type pin, more for practical use than decorative, a very flash button with gold gilt, a decorative strap mount, a not yet ID’d coin and a copper/bronze alloy spiky loop thing that maybe someone can ID for me.

So not a bad day at all.

Pictures below.

Mmmmmmm looks like trouble with image sizing again will have to add the others later ??

OK!! I am now confused ?? I have removed the image in the post and re-sized two images to under 600px it excepts them on attachment but will not post them ????

That button looks special. We need more pics of that one ::g

The crotal bell appears to be a plain one? Without seeing the loop properly it looks like a later one - late 18th or, more likely, 19th century.
