My 50 tone setup if anyone fancies a try:

Field 1

Frequency = Multi
Noise Cancel = <set/reset as needed>
Ground Balance = <set/reset as needed>
Volume Adjust = 25
Tone Volume = 1, 25
Threshold Level = 4
Threshold Pitch = 1
Target Tone = 50
Tone Pitch = 1, 25
Reject/Accept = -9 to 0, 1 to 40
Tone Break = 0
Recovery Speed = 3 ~ 6 (depending on conditions, usually 4 to start off)
Iron Bias (FE) = 0
Sensitivity = 18 ~ 25 (depending on conditions, usually 21 to start off)
Backlight = Off

Horseshoe off - will give you a very quiet but responsive session, picking good targets out easily.

If you want to hear the iron just switch horseshoe on.

Adjust recovery speed depending on how much iron is around. For example on a roman site perhaps push it up to 6 - see what works for you, hopefully start picking out the targets in amongst the iron. Quiet pasture, drop down to 3 or 4 for extra depth

Noise cancel/ground balance at the start, then adjust/update whenever needed.

Mobile phone on airplane mode!

I tried a few new Iron Bias F2 settings a bit but still prefer FE = 0 (it just suits me and I can hear the iron tones fine using this).

When I've got to grips with my new equinox (waiting for me for when I get home) and the preset programs. I'll then try out different settings in the future.

It's basically a 3 tone set up - I have the tones set as they are so that the small coins/cut quarters and foil etc. give a lower tone (10), your main stock items share the same tone on two settings (both at 18) and then larger items such as cans or big silver have a higher tone (22)

Horseshoe off will give you a very quiet but responsive session, picking good targets out easily.

If you want to hear the iron just switch horseshoe on. Similar to Neil's program, the iron will come through as a high pitched very quiet tone, which is very easy on the ear and is right in the background. Try it! It works really well.

I often push sensitivity up to 25 if it's not too noisy, and adjust the recovery speed and iron bias between the numbers shown, depending on how much iron is around and what mood I'm in.

I don't bother with Threshold so I set it to 0.

Noise cancel at the start and then every half hour or so if I think it needs it.

Mobile phone on airplane mode.

I also use Gordon's trick of having Park 1 (factory pre-set with Frequency set to 10Khz) saved to user profile to switch to if I need to check dodgy signals and see it they might be iron.

Edit main post as I am using the 50 tone program now.

I'm saving my old program here in case anyone wants to try that too

That is also more or less what I use, the only exception is that I turn the Tone 1 volume down to 1 to quieten the iron signals a bit and to make the positive signals stand out more. I still occasionally tweak the odd setting just to try and see what it does and what difference it makes but always seem to come back to these settings.

I have found that identifying iron is no big deal anymore, the signal is unmissable once you get used to it.

Agreed, only occasionally I'm tricked by iron now, usually big iron rings does it... but most machines are fooled by these.

I've turned up iron volume slightly as most of the time the horseshoe is off anyway and when it's on I want to hear it.

I have found I enjoy the Nox better with the sensitivity ramped down a tad from what it will take on a given field. Say I could push it to 24...I instead settle it back at 21 or 2. Otherwise I waste a helluva lot of time digging tiny teeny pieces of mince. I have only so much time available in the fields so I have to draw a line somewhere.
I like 5 tones. Ample for me personally. I have hearing issues across some tones so its better I find to keep it simple.
I do think people generally stress a bit too much about digging some iron. Its inevitable that some will slip through and fool you or the machine sometimes. We know what the usual suspects are.
But its always been my view that if you are NOT digging at least some iron you are going to be missing good targets. That is true for all machines. That said, I find most Iron easy to pick with the Nox. The shape of the sound jars a tad and has a few other tells. I also lift the coil if I think its big iron and if I am still getting a strong sound from a decent height off the ground the odds on it being a big ole lump of ferrous increase sharply.

out of interest, your iron bias is set on zero, is this with the new F2 update or the previous FE ?
