Help please to identify find

Post by MiniMac » Fri Jul 13, 2018 6:46 pm

Found on recently plough field, 3 inches down with a Garrett 200i. It is slightly smaller and I am presuming it is silver.

Sorry guys. It is slightly smaller than a decimal 1 pence piece. Ps is there a way of editing you post if you have made an omission

Yes, there should be an icon next to the 'thanks' icon (a pencil) top of your post.

Yep. Size matters. You have taken pics of both sides which is a start, but dimensions make all the difference.
Is it silver? (do spit and foil to get an idea)?
Is it heavy or light?
Are there any obvious markings we can't see for ourselves in the picture?
Whether it was 3ins down or a foot is really rather a moot point on ploughed. More important to mention is the context of any find .....such as what else is coming up and what age is it? are there any houses/churches/ earthworks close by? etc etc.
Have another bash at posting this with some flesh on the bones and I am sure you will get a more accurate identification.

Help please to identify find. ( Take 2. Adviced talen )

Post by MiniMac » Fri Jul 13, 2018 7:32 pm

Found in recent ploughed field between 2 villages in Fife. Spit test says it is silver. It weighs 2.15 grams and measures 14 x 18 mm. There are 3 churches within a 3 mile radius.
Garrett 200i and approx 3 to 4 inches deep.

Looks like a button minus the shank, or perhaps some other keepsake like a pendant minus the loop, of Shiva, an Indian God. Often portrayed with a snake around his neck and may have 4 arms! :D

This sort of stuff was popular in the 60s and 70s so possibly from then onwards. ::g

I'd agree with Fred's timeline and also reckon it's a pendant ::g ss47

There does seem to be a couple spots of gold gilt. Spit test done and it does have a very strong smell of bad eggs
