50 Tones

Post by Longshanks777 » Sat Jul 14, 2018 8:30 am

Just wondered what people's thoughts were on using 50 tones? I've had the Equinox a fair while now and started in 2 tone but found 50 tones to be a bit better on busy sites. I know most run with 2 tones or 5 tones but is anyone else having much success with 50 tones?

Thanks in advance

Longshanks

Thanks Barneyboy,

I've been using 2 and 5 but find you get a lot more falsing, 50 tones seems to work better for me atm. Especially on busy sites. I was just curious to see if any other users opted for 50 and how they are getting on with it.

Can I ask Fred and longshanks (and anyone else) if they can describe the advantages of using 50 tones. What exactly is it you are listening for that you prefer or the information you get from the extra tones that make this the better option in your view.

I think if you look in the manual you’ll see why there is so much difference between 2, 5, & 50 tones.
The full range of tones (50) is broken down into sections to accommodate the choice of 2 or 5. This means more items are clubbed together with the same tone.
Soooo, if you use all 50 tones you are likely to get a different tone for more items. I got used to that with a different Minelab detector and it was a very hard and frustrating experience that took a long time.

My advice would be to stick with 5 till you get more used to things.

Exactly that reason and in many cases to sound alone is enough to decide what targets to dig. It also makes the sound resposes much more like a CTX, which I am familiar with. I use 50 tones on land and beaches. ::g
