I have the 3mxi but the older one with a polo coil. I normally keep discrimination at 2.5-3 and with the sensitivity I hold the coil as I would if detecting ie close to the ground you are searching and turn up until you get the loud noise (threshold) and then turn back down until you can just hear it and then off you go. Good luck and hopefully you will be posting some finds in a day or so. You will dig a lot of junk until you can tell what the detector is telling you, even though this is a single tone machine you can tell the slight differences in beeps and soon you won’t dig as much junk and coke up.

No worries, it’s a easy to use machine but will take a while to hear the slight changes in tone to help you to decide to dig or not but as a general rule if it makes a beep each time you pass over it left and right...... dig. It does find some tiny pieces too that without a pin pointer will take a while to find I bought one of the cheap gp pointers and find it excellent but have heard c scope might be bringing one out soon.

Which one did you get?

Yeah, they're alright. I have one and it works just fine does all I need it to do. No idea if the Garrett does anything more, probably does but all you need to know is which side of the hole to concentrate on.It does that quite happily.
