Strip off II

Headed off last week to one of the most distant beaches I go to, takes about 2 hrs. This is far enough for me as there is a huge choice within that distance. Last time I went there it was dismal, a depth of several inches of sloppy mud which is no good when other places beckon. This tiny little beach was once a hive of fishing boat activity, mostly poor folk in the 18th/19th century. Whats good about here is the coins tend to be in the same condition they were lost in, so numbers don't count quality does. This time no silt just clean exposed clay and stones, Oyster & mussel shells along with glass, pipes, pottery and old leather bits, this I like! Only a few coins but the 1792 Halfpenny token was the best along with some clean coppers a bullhead 6d and silver collar stud. I like clay pipes, have picked up many over the years.

Good selection of finds, worth the drive for.
Like the clay pipe bowls , something I have never found, although plenty of stem pieces in a river.
Cheers ::g

Thank you for this post. People talk about what a good section of beach looks like and I eventually saw a YouTube video once that showed what a beach that had been stripped looked like and it all became clear.

Your photos do as good a job ::g

If i ever do any beach detecting (never have) then I’ll be absolutely clear what to look for - thank you. And great finds as a result :D
