Re: Specialist Newbie Rally? Sat 11th May
Poor Liam. Get well soon. A couple of weeks ago while looking for a target he had dropped I discovered that a mate of mine also had a replacement knee. ![]() Equinox 800 x2

Re: Specialist Newbie Rally? Sat 11th MayThis is something I'd love to have been able to attend, Ian, but unfortunately I'll be ordering beer in English in a very loud voice in Italy over that weekend. Such a shame as this is a gem of an idea.
Essential equipment:
Some sort of electrical gubbins(I'm told it's a Deus). In various colours Jenkins Gin.
Re: Specialist Newbie Rally? Sat 11th May![]() No need, Bob - gin, both in name and nature, is a universal language. Essential equipment:
Some sort of electrical gubbins(I'm told it's a Deus). In various colours Jenkins Gin. Re: Specialist Newbie Rally? Sat 11th MayHaving recently got my first detector, I would love how to use it properly. Can you put my name down for this. Thanks.
Re: Specialist Newbie Rally? Sat 11th MayIt might be worth finding out what machines new detectorists coming to this event are using; while someone with experience on a different machine can still give invaluable general advice, there's nothing quite like someone who's had tons of experience on the machine you've just started out on providing pointers.
In an ideal world it would be great to have an "expert" Safari user walking alongside me for 15 minutes actual detecting, listening to the beeps and explaining how they interpret those noises. I'm sure all new detectorists would feel the same for their particular machine too. I doubt we'll be able to do that for everyone at this event, but it would be great if at least some of the new folks could be paired up with someone familiar with their machine. Looking forward to it ![]() Z Minelab Safari

Re: Specialist Newbie Rally? Sat 11th MayHi all, the knee op took more out of me than expected
![]() ![]() We still have plenty of time to get everything in order for the big day and I will get the list of attendees updated. This type of Learning Day will prove a great success I am sure and will be repeated into the future. Its essentially a day of discovery, learning how to understand the technical aspects of your machine, how to use it out in the field and just as important having an array of top class people who can educate us on all of the other aspects of the hobby. Re: Specialist Newbie Day - Sat 11th MayHello Liam and Ian,
This is a fab idea and the intinery looks really fantastic. Every day is a school day ![]() Huge thanks for organising such an event. Can you put my name down please. I think such days will help us “newbies” continue on with this pastime and the more the merrier for both the commercial world and hobbyists alike. Let me know where to send money too. Re: Specialist Newbie Day - Sat 11th MayHello. I have just been reading through this thread and whilst I will not be able to participate, I just wanted to say that this represents everything good about the hobby.
I was fortunate enough to be invited out a few times by an experienced detectorist when I first started, and believe me, I gained invaluable advice and practical help. Good luck to all. ![]() Tesoro Silver Sabre Plus

Re: Specialist Newbie (and others) Day - Sat 11th MayIt will be cash on the day, probably £20 to include free tea/coffee, cakes, biccies .. EVERY penny goes into the pot for local charities. Mentors will be free of course.
Mike - thanks for your kind words of support, much appreciated ![]() To a large extent we are ALL newbies, learning something new each day in all sorts of ways. This "Learning Day" will cover just about everything and well worth attending even if we have years of detecting under our belts ![]() ![]() Deus, WSi's - In the end we will regret the chances we didn't take, the relationships we were afraid to have and the decisions we waited too long to make ..
