Elizabeth 1st penny with weird mint mark? Maybe?!

Post by Elbasstardo » Fri May 17, 2019 5:43 pm

Hi everyone

A quick hour at lunch proved fruitful today with a few interesting bits, a 12d coin weight, a thimble a buckle and a small roman coin fragment, but this ones a bit odd to my mind. I know Elizabeth 1sts nose isn't the most attractive but what's going on with this?! Also any ideas of a date would be ace please and thank you

Found 3" down on pasture full of everything from roman to 1880s garrett ace 250 all metal mode

I " think ? " 2 signifies 1602 If indeed that's what you're referring to.

Having cleaned it up there's a square hole through the raised section on her nose!

Hi
Really Lovely coin ::g
Could the extra nasal appendage be the backside of a counter stamp
Done a bit too enthusiastically?
Does it tie in with the position of the dent on the shield side...

It does tie in with the dent on the shield but that dent is a small square which is a different shape and actually wider than her "nasal appendage"
Jewellery hmm that could make sense!

Thank you everyone
