Metal Detecting

Hi there,
Has anyone tried out the X10 yet? I saw a review on the x5 on YT, it seems like a good machine for the price (on a tight budget) but I found the X10 on sale here in Poland for about 180 GBP.

I don't do beaches, only forests and fields for all types of relics.

There doesn't seem to be too much around on the X10 at the moment or at least not in English. I have seen some dutch YT vids but there are no subtitles so it's all a guessing game...unless you speak the language of course

The X10 is on sale here in the UK for around the same price as you can get it in Poland and from what I can tell it is a lot of detector for the money.

There are three things that stand out with the X10.

• Interchangeable coils. You can use the coils for the Q20/Q40/quest Pro

• Auto and Manual Ground Balance

• Wireless Audio

That is quite high spec for a detector in this price range!

The fact that you can change coils gives you longevity and versatility.

Manual ground balance is not common on what is essentially an entry level detector and could help widen out the sorts of places you can search.

Wireless audio, again is not something you would normally find at this price point.

Oh and the control box is water resistant. Ok you can't submerge it in water but you can search in the rain and it will be fine.

My wife wants an X10 so will probably order one this week and see how it goes.

Thanks so much for the information - I have a limited budget so it ticks the box there.
Let me know if you get one for your wife - I am wondering if the 8Khz frquency will be enough for general stuff (I live close to a very old forest - WW1 and WW2 stuff everywhere).

Can it work on wet sand

My mate Chris is going to try his on the beach this weekend, I will let you know if he can GB it on the wet.

Don't worry about the 8khz it will find the small stuff.

As for the built in wireless, well Jason Tang from Quest says it does not have wireless, Carl from Spinadisc says it has 2.4ghz system, etc. As far as I know it does not have it built in.

I do have a no lag bluetooth solution that costs under £30, I can post the links if anyone is interested.

The quest website is confusing as it mentions wirless, but the manual is very vague.

The searcher did a test of the x5 it's on Youtube, seems a decent machine, I should have got my x10 Tuesday, but DPD have lost it :-(

The X10 definitely does not have wireless and that should have been removed from the wording on the Quest website by now but has not been.

Even the control housing on the X10 shows a wireless symbol so it is very confusing for potential buyers.

Apparently there is a space on the circuit board for a wireless module but this was never intended to be added and is for a future version. Something doesn't seem right about that statement but it is what it is and certainly I can live without the wireless for now.

As to the other question about whether the X10 works on the beach and in particular on wet sand, yes it does but you need to play around with the settings. The X10 has no dedicated beach mode.

You will probably need to manually adjust the ground balance (it is not in the manual!)

Manual Ground Balance (0-99) – With the coil in the air, press and hold the GB button and adjust using the up and down arrow buttons.

Also keep the detector in jewelry mode and turn sensitivity down to around 60-65.

It all depends on the particular beach of course but it does work.

The new Quest X5 runs at a frequency of 12Khz, so should be more sensitive to smaller targets, however, this may be at the expense of reduced depth.
