Cut Half Short Cross - ID Henry II Class 1

Post by Zyrbalax » Fri Sep 13, 2019 8:16 pm

Hi all,

Found today, my second cut half :D

Just below the surface on an area of pasture that had been scraped by a digger. Found with my trusty Safari, on all metal (conductive). Nice 13-14 signal that couldn’t be ignored.

Being a short cross it’s either Henry II, Richard I, John or Henry III. I’m thinking Henry II but expecting to be corrected - if there’s enough detail for a Class, moneyer or mint that would be awesome.

The crown looks like 3 rows of pellets - 1 at the top then 2 then maybe 7 in a straight line at the base? Looks like some nice curls in his hair!

The coin is quite heavily curved so getting pics of the reverse is quite difficult, if these aren’t good enough I’ll try again tomorrow! I think the reverse pics are the right way up...

I might now have to think about straightening a coin for the first time too!

Many thanks all
Ian / Z

Awesome, thank you Allectus, my first H2 ::g :D

Is there enough detail for a stab at a sub-class? (Just being cheeky now aren’t I!)
