Mk8 Torpedo Propeller

Not been here for a long while. Beaches have been poor and I have been doing other things. A few winter storms will encourage me out again!

Hoping for some help with the numbers on a propeller from a mk8 torpedo. They were in service for a long time and would love to know a bit more about mine. I am sorry this was not a MD find.

NCS
RF

951

PITCH 35-48
DIA R 18.1
No AA4044

21\|111

The larger prop has markings too that I haven’t included. Is there anything to look for? Finding out when this was likely loaded on a sub would be a nice start.

Thank you.

These were used on surface vessels as well as subs. Very nice find and apparently very valuable too! You need to get it cleaned up and polished now!

Yes, as stated it wasn’t a MD find. Posted here as I know no where else that has the combined knowledge as on this forum. Would like to know more about the markings. I have another torpedo prop (American) in alloy which is dated 1979. Can’t find anything about it despite having an NSN number. At the moment they are just lumps of metal to me without their history.

They’re a bit outside my knowledge (nice examples, by the way!), but I would suggest that if you are on Facebook, there is a group called ‘Grenades and ordnance of the 20th century’ - fantastic people there, some who specialise in just this subject.

If Facebook isn’t your thing, there are two forums I would recommend, either the British Ordnance Collectors Network, http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/
and the International Ammunition Association web forum. https://forum.cartridgecollectors.org/
Both of which are free to sign up and use. They’re very helpful Indeed ::g

Best regards,

Simon
