This time the ring is definitely gold... And my first silver sixpence

Post by LloydF »

Quick hunt after work - 3 hours on a new-ish field. After 2 hours of nothing interesting I considered moving to a different field, decided it wasn't worth it for 1 hour and I'd stay put, next hole and this popped out........

definitely gold this time (9ct), I think the date letter is O but can't work out the assay mark, if anyone can make it out that'd be amazing ๐Ÿ‘

Took 5 more steps and got my first silver coin...

So overall a great evening, ring is 47g

I'm thinking 300quid for the Farmer and a new simplex for myself ๐Ÿคฃ

That ring is a stonker. ::g It's quite modern so better make sure that the farmer doesn't know who lost it before you spend the spoils though! :D

I've messaged him already, definitely one of the biggest rings I've ever seen, lots of the travelling community frequent the area, so I assume it's been dropped during some hare coursing. Karma I guess.

That might account for the sketchy Hall marks. Travellers tend to buy all sorts at their fares, and they love big & bold.
You should see the one Iโ€™ve got :D it weighs 22 grams ::g hall marks in mine are just as sketchy.

Fantastic find. Hope you get the price ::g

Really is one of the biggest rings I've ever seen, the picture doesn't do it justice, yep 88-90 on the 400i. I'm going to get a jeweller to have a look just to make sure it's legit and then I think I'll pop it on a well known auction site rather than for gold scrap.

I just couldn't believe it was the first hole after I very nearly moved to a different field.

Yeah there are quite a few similar online, most of them are around the 25-30g mark at that price. My plan is to start the auction at the scrap price and anything else is a bonus. ๐Ÿ‘

Finally got the ring tested today, Legitimate 9ct gold. Sold it it straight away for 700......very happy camper, and I would guess a rather pleased farmer when I surprise him with some cash next time I see him.

There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile,
He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile;
He bought a crooked cat which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

That ring is something else, a crooked sixpence supposed to bring good luck ::g

Very well done Lloyd. They say the first offer is the best. No advertising or hassle, cash in the hand, canโ€™t beat it ::g

That was definitely a lucky day, bought a lottery ticket on the way home.... Won a free lucky dip, not quite as good as I was hoping on that side but the finds made up for it!

Thanks, I initially put it on an auction site, someone offered over the odds to end it early, I did and then he stopped answering any messages so I'd had enough of messing around with that. Like you say a solid cash here and now offer, you just can't beat.

Missed this first time round Lloyd... that was a real knuckle-duster of a ring and really pleased you got a decent amount for it. Nice one. ::g

Nice to get a sixpence to. I have been lucky enough to probably find more tanners than other denominations, but I really, really do like them. Quality stuff.
