Want to learn all about detecting? Newbies (and others) Training Day Spring 2020

The first event was held in Glos and was a great success. I have since received some requests for a second event but held more central, so more accessible. I have now moved to Lincolnshire and I think we could easily get something organised for Spring 2020. It would be along the same lines as before, tuition/talks from the experts during the morning, then after lunch getting out onto some good land. All that would bring on a good thirst and Lincoln will not be found wanting re good beers and food. Saturday would probably be best for driving, tuition and lectures up to lunchtime and the afternoon out in the fields to see if there has been any improvements! Then next day for anyone with some energy left, perhaps an invite onto my new clubs (LHSS) regular Digs. They are a friendly and welcoming lot, they even accepted me!! =))
All in all I think we have the ingredients for a successful event. All profits to the clubs chosen charity, hopefully continued support from the Detecting companies, FLO in attendance, usually roman/medieval finds pop up. Lincolnshire was part of the Viking conquest and Torksey was their first Winter Camp, though it was not all about fighting and Lincolns museum https://www.thecollectionmuseum.com/ has a wonderful array of detecting finds to illustrate. Lincoln was founded by the Romans of course and the City still has much evidence of that, mostly uphill where the majestic Cathedral and Castle are located.
Anyone wishing to be included on a provisional list please add your name below. Its a great way to learn more about this wonderful hobby and also get out onto some good land, Liam ::g

Thanks all, we have quite a while to go yet but better to have the event lined up way ahead. Fred, what would we do without your skills and knowledge? ::g ::g
Lincoln is a very roman area, Ninth Legion etc and so there should be roman coins coming up at least. The City is full of history, with the Norman castle supplanted on top of the roman fortress and the beautiful Cathedral itself, all uphill amidst the original roman town quarters.
Lets hope its stopped raining by then .. Liam :;@

Hello Liam
I attended this years event in Gloucester so I don’t suppose I am a newbie now but very keen.
So if possible I would like to attend please.
As you mentioned Lincoln cathedral this is a photograph I took when the pews were removed.
Just how it would have been in the Middle Ages.

Best regards
Fred

Wow! fantastic photo ::g I am told that the ceiling is so high that they occasionally get a sort of mist formation, would look fitting for all the angels up there. Liam :;@

Hi Liam,

I also attended the last session so no longer a newbie but would love to attend, and the opportunity to detect in an area far from home adds to the attraction!

Please can you put me down as a provisional?

Many thanks

Hi,

seems a nice opportunity, will depend on the date, but I am interested.

Don't know if it is necessary to put my name as provisional, but if so, please do!

Best wishes,

Christian.
