Cracking knapped chert multi tool and a nice core

Post by Lowland »

hi,
Sorting through the flakes and debitage from field walking the lithic scatter field and this little fella
Stood out..fits beautifully in the hand and really masterfully knapped from locally abundant chert.
Three quarters of the flake edge has been retouched and two notches taken out ,it makes mincemeat of a pencil like a tiny spoke shave
The broad point is a great slicer and there’s been a skinny point that has come off at some point too.
The closer I’m looking at some of these finds the more I’m seeing and appreciating the skill and attention to detail these folks possessed.
Cheers ::g

Hi Fred,I'd like to see that,
I've got a couple of real head scratchers and an amazing core with tiny blades roughed out
Still attached to the core!

That’s nice Rory. I got a few now and they’re always a treat to find. Mine are all creamy coloured though. S’pose that’s what our local chert is all like. It must be different in other parts of the country.
Well found. Harder when they’re dark coloured.

Morning oxgirl,when I was about 7 or 8 out fieldwalking,
I found a tiny chert leaf shaped arrowhead and hadn’t found a single other piece
Until I tripped over this lot.....if you’re looking you will see em-leave the
Detector in the car one day :D (it’s a hard thing to do!).
