Beaches in South Korea

Well, I took a trip to detect a beach for a few days.

The Beach:
After a 5 hour drive, I arrived at the beach to be greeted by huge mountains of sand and a bulldozer spreading the new sand all over the beach. I knew I wouldn't find much treasure when I saw that.

Beach with the ACE 150 and a sunspot scoop.

Finds:

Lots of coins, a few keys, I found 2 phones however the scoop demolished one when digging it out of the sand, so 1 in picture. The most unusual find was a US MRE ration pack. 1 fashion ring and loads, literally hundreds of cans, pulltaps, beer bottle tops and soju bottle tops.

Conclusions:
The ACE 150 is a great machine for the dry sand. If it is there, it will find it. I used it also in the wet sand and sea. I turned the sensitivity down to 2 bars. It was finding cigarette packets and pulltaps down at around 4 inches in the sea. It found a phone down at about 7 inches in the wet sand, unfortunately the scoop ate it and broke it to a thousand pieces. I dropped the ACE in the sea by accident whilst recovering a find (no cuff strap), turned it off, removed batteries, dried it with a towel, and was back in business. Amazing little machine.

I also used a Whites Beach Hunter that a friend lent me. Could not get on with it, the constant hum was driving me mad after 2 hours in the sea.

The scoop was amazing, really saved my back. It is a beast of a scoop but if the point hits anything, you can kiss goodbye to that object!

It was my first time detecting in the sea, and boy does it tire you out! I really want to upgrade to a machine that is waterproof now (I'm thinking AT Pro, fits budget, but still unsure about the reviews-will research some more). It was great being in the cool sea whilst soaking up the hot sun. No gold or silver but a great few days on the beach. :D

Looks like you had a good day out in all, not tried detecting in water yet but have seen some extreme YouTube videos of some being done in very deep water lol

I enjoyed myself and would love to live by a beach...I'd be there everyday!

I didn't find any gold, but I think if there was any there, I would have found it. Koreans keep saying I won't find any as they are not wearing there gold jewellery now the price of gold has risen. I really am impressed with the ACE 150, I would love to have a go with an AT Pro, or at the high end, a Minelab E-Trac just to see how they perform.

I'll be hitting some more beaches when I get time, one day I'm sure I'll find one ring. ;)

Scoop was fantastic. I have a bad back, and it saved me. It was well worth the money. I had to laugh when I thought about the way I used to use a hand scoop at the beach, was hard work. I also can't see anyone harassing me when that scoop is around...it looks like it means business :-O

I still didn't receive a reply from my email :( oh well.

Hey Echo

I was sabotaged with the delivery of tons of sand to my local beach in Japan as well. One week before my At Pro arrived. Was looking forward to seeing of I could find anything in the wet sand that I missed with the ACE 250. Was out with the AT Pro yesterday in the rain at the beach. It was great but I am not convinced it got anything my Ace would not have found as I was not able to try somewhere I had already been.
The At Pro looks cool and is a lot more solid than the Ace. A lot heavier but nicely balanced. Got wet covered in wet sand and I washed it of under the tap and had no problems with it. Reading the booklet that came with it and hope to be back out next weekend.

All the best Echo

Ern!!

Glad it arrived, that was quick. For my budget the AT Pro is looking like the machine suited to my needs. I have read reviews where there were issues with leakage, but sounds like you got a good one.

It surprises me that you think it didn't out perform the old ACE 250. Please let me know how it does as you detect more.

What headphones did you get with the AT Pro?

Did you get the coil issue sorted?

Hey there Echo

sorry although I said I didnt find anything I wouldnt have found with the Ace 250 I should have also said I only dug ONE piece of foil. It was great at discriminating what was worth digging and what was not. I did still dig a lot of pull tabs as they register almost identically as the Japanese 100 yen coin.

The headphones I got wth the At pro are great but heavy and sweaty. Unfortunately due to their waterproof connection I can not use any other headphones.

The service and delivery from the guy on ebay was spot on. He even assured me that if anything was wrong with it I could just post it back to him and his shop was only 45 mins from the Garrett factory where he would get it fixed and post it back.

The coil for my ACE has been sent back to Garret. After I posted it I got an email from ebay saying I could post it back to them and get it replaced but I had already posted it.

Anyway I can recommend the ebay shop I got the AT PRO from. I will keep you up to dae with how the At Pro goes.

Sounds like you got good service there, that is always crucial when you're living half way around the world from the factory/sales shop.

I'm going to stick with the ACE 150 for the dry sand/land for the moment and try a Pulse Induction unit for the water. The C.Scope 4PI is looking like my next machine. I don't have a huge budget for a machine and that one seems to fit the bill.

I will then upgrade the ACE later in the year when the weather cools and I go to the mountains again.

Please keep me updated about the AT Pro. Did you submerge it yet? :-O =))

Hey Echo

just got an email from the Garrett factory today. They have fixed my coil and have posted it back. No charge!!!!
Will be back out with the AT PRO tomorrow. Will give it a quick dunking to see how it holds up but dont have a scoop for retrieval yet so no point in trying detecting in the water yet.

Ern,

Great news about the coil.

Definitely post something about your exploits with the AT Pro.

I have the sunspot scoop:

Worth it's wait in gold, no more backache!!!

Have the monsoon rains hit Japan yet? Weather is terrible here.

All the best :)

Hey there Echo

hows your beach hunting going?

I just started my summer holidays and was looking forward to hitting the beach but both my boys are sick.

Stuck doing baby sitting duty!!!!!!!!

Heading back to the UK on saturday and wondering if I can sneack the detector in the suitcase past the Mrs =D>
