How is more depth gained in general?
I've seen different coils being used on different machines , but don't really understand the ins and outs of it at the moments.
Cheers

Increasing depth ?Increasing depth ?Hi all , just wondered if it is possible to increase depth on 200i ( not that I'm unhappy with my machine)?

I used an Ace 250 and assume not too much different than the 200 when my quest began and soon upgraded the coil to the nel tornado. Gained maybe a couple of inches in depth but could cover an area quicker. On the standard coil i found i needed to swing slower to get deeper signals. Not much help but im sure a more knowledgeable detectorist will be along soon

I found the same results on my ace 300i I think it was more stable as well

There's loads of coil options for that model of detector

there so many variables
target size ? ground conditions ? Quality of factory coil ? I find little or no difference in coin depth in the ground depth between 5.5", 8" or 10"coils "any machine) above 10" there is a small increase in depth on pre decimal half penny and large. In the fields near me any you only get 1/3rd of the increase you see in air testing. In your field you mileage may be different. Main thing is not to get fixated on depth. Changing coil or machine make only a little difference when compared to moving to a more productive field. swinging properly machine running properly and not messed up in some custom settings all will make more of a difference. Even the you have to walk over it. As a couple of examples on really bad ground like wet sand increasing your coil size normally decreases your finds rate and a really hot but chattering coil will normally find less than a more stable coil the First time you walk down a field here in Cheshire you realise that depth isnt the main limiting factors. Thanks Koala , much food for thought there.
Interestingly I believe the much slower swing I did on the weekend helped me find the 3 coins . I can only manage about 3 hrs tops before running out of steam. With this in mind , I think from now on I'll pick a small area of a field , swing slower from now on. Just as a noob one is itching find everything in one day . Hopefully in a couple of weeks I should have a new 30 acre field , coupled with what I currently have that should keep me occupied for the foreseeable. Donut Garrett 200i
