Metal Detecting

Been watching some youtube videos of underwater detecting and also Mud Men on TV and have always been fascinated by the local river (the Stour in Canterbury) which has Roman history and much more. There are some very rural stretches close to my village, would love to wade in the river and detect on the bank and on the river bed.

Are there any people who detect in rivers or on the banks, or even just wade and search by eye? What does the foreshore permission cover, and who do I need permission from to detect the river itself. I had read that it was owned by the landowner whose land it goes through, but I can't believe that for such a major river with traffic like the Stour.

I'd change the "subject" if i was you, i didn't look at this at first as i thought it was an appeal for a pair of 2nd hand waders!

Hi. The foreshore permit does not include the river bed! A seperate permit is required.

I live on the banks of the River Mersey. I wouldn't DARE detect the bed... god knows whats down there! *shudders*

Has anyone detected on the foreshore of the Stour, which is crown estate from Just east of Canterbury through to Sandwich. Was it any good?

Reason I ask is I grew up In Sturry which is just north of the town and Cinque Port of Fordwich. As I remember there wasn't much of a foreshore, sort of walk along the bank on sunny days then either fall, jump, get shoved or dragged in while having a laugh with your mates. Also going down that way next week so might give it a bash to get some diverse experience in metal detecting - depends on any responses I get from this, as got a busy week of practising next week and want to get the most out of it.
