Hello all, the MDF forum recently migrated to a more updated and powerful dedicated server which also come with the addition of more hard drive storage space, as this is the case we can now allow 2 more additional images to be added when ID requests are created
To get a idea presently we have approaching 200,000 image attachments hosted at the MDF which creates a huge backup file so we are still required to set a daily limit quota to remain in place but from today 8 image attachments uploads will now be allowed daily per member.

Any chance we can get one of those "show us your besties" type threads going?
I know you've never been too keen on them but maybe it will be less of a pain now?
Nothing better than drooling over members treasure.

We do have a fair few such topic related to best general and best specific finds but searching for them can be difficult as the search terms are so common when using the search feature.

Now may be a good time to reconsider compressing the archive of images. I mentioned this many years ago, a lot of photo-editing packages can 'batch edit' a series of files.
You would basically need to increase the jpeg compression ratio to achieve a useful result. Perhaps limit it to images older than 2 years, so it's not so obtrusive.

It's also worth reminding people that the forum-hosted photo size limit is 1000 pixels square maximum, but an image 600px is plenty big enough for many ID / story purposes, and is a considerably smaller file size ( about 40% the size ) as a result. Also, it's possible to photo-edit multiple images into one, for example four 500 x 500px images into one 1000px image , useful if you want to show lots of images in a post.

Hi Ian, yes I remember and I did look into it Its quite a procedure however as when the images are uploaded the image format is changed and also the image file name, from what I can recall they all had to be processed back into one format then compressed to make them a smaller file size and then back again to the format the software allows / uses, it was a colossal task unfortunately and not really worth while.

Yes that is worthwhile knowing if member wish to help the cause but generally most will never think or realize about such things, they will simply have a image on their device / mobile phone and upload it, many will have no idea about the resolution file size, file type etc which is understandable.

A friend of mine posted a few extra photos on an ID request once, which led to a deleted post and a private message warning from a moderator….. fast forward to yesterday and I saw an I.d request post with between 10-15 pictures. My friend no longer uses this forum

Hello you will not find anyone here exceeding the daily attachment image quota which up until today was 6 images maximum in a 24 hour period, what your friend would of saw was a member hosting his images off-site from likely a image hosting website, when a member does this there are no restrictions at all and they can basically post as many images as they like as no server space usage is required.
Its a shame your friend never at least decided to ask why a member was allowed to use so many images and simply opted to leave
