I have seen mixed views on this one but going towards Looe in a few weeks, are the beaches detectable or am I not allowed?? Thanks everyone!!

Hi

Looe beach does not appear highlighted on the Crown Estates map but you use to be able to obtain a permit from the East Looe Town Trust .

Not sure if this is still the case or how much the fee costs.

May be worth enquiring prior to your visit

Good luck ..please let us know how you get on as it could prove useful to others thinking of doing similar

The Crown Estate map does not apply for Cornwall , Looe beach a permit is needed but they was restricting them in the past .

Thanks everyone for the tips, I emailed them to ask how to apply and it is as easy as print out a form, fill it out, photo evidence of the filled out form in an email and then they will send you an invoice to pay for the permit(£20) per year.
Once payed they will send either an email of the permit or send it by post. Cheers!!

Mini - mustard. I hope you dont mind getting some advice from an old timer. It would be wise to hold off about the permit. From past trips to East and West Looe, and what happens on most of the beaches near me in Portsea and nationwide, is that every morning the beaches are scraped, and all the coins and jewellery as well as the rubbish are scooped up as well. You just need to find out where inland it is all dumped . It only pays to detect beaches after a big storm when there has been a large removal of new sand off the beach and into the sea You will be £20 up with this advice. please let me know if this has been helpful

Thanks for your tip .. interesting...and would explain why last year on Porth Beach after 3 goes and 12 hours of detecting I only had half a dozen coins and they were all old finds at around 8-10 inches deep

Hi, thanks for the advice, luckily they will do a heavily reduced rate as I'm only going for a week, so I may still get the permit as something to do

You will get a few bits, do a post with a pic on your return it would be good to see even if you draw a blank but I think you won`t...Good luck.......
