Underwhelmed
There are certain items that every detectorist will instantly recognise. A find that we all look forward to, we know we will find one but unsure when.
This weekend I managed an hour out, I stumbled upon a Georgian coin spill comprising five halfpennies (quite pleased with the 1799 variant), an interesting Wellington Irish penny token and something I've always wanted to find, a George iii shilling.
Beaming I headed home.
Gave the coin a wash, handled it a bit and began to realise I was a little underwhelmed. It wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. Perhaps because it was instantly recognisable and requires no research, perhaps because it feels light in the hand. Anyway here it is, my underwhelming find of the day (I do like a bit of silver though and it has knocked something of my wish list so perhaps I shouldn't sound so ungrateful)
Happy hunting.

It's clear that a small silver coin doesn't have the same exciting power as a nude model lying on the grass saying "I've been waiting for you", but there's worse, like not finding silver for years and years, or just finding trash

When you say "nude model" I assume what you really mean is Celtic Gold Stater?Sven@1970 wrote: Tue Oct 29, 2024 7:25 am It's clear that a small silver coin doesn't have the same exciting power as a nude model lying on the grass saying "I've been waiting for you", but there's worse, like not finding silver for years and years, or just finding trash

I kinda get it. The magic in the field can be lost when back at home. I really enjoy looking at my finds but the moments they were unearthed can’t be recaptured. And so back out into the field I’ll go.

That is a very nice coin...great condition and detail... I'd be very happy with that one.
A very nice find...no need to feel underwhelmed
Regards.
