Item for ID please

I found this piece on Friday on a permission that only seems to produce Roman or fairly modern . This came up in a very Roman area of a field though I did find my first full crotal bell nearby.
It’s copper alloy and looks button like on the front but the rear is unusual with two stepped flattened sides to the protrusion. Doesn’t look like any button I’ve seen before!
Could be some sort of stud/mount but again the back looks different.
Any suggestions gratefully received,
Cheers.

I found some thing similar and it turned out to be the knob of the top of a tobacco jar lid

Thanks, I’ve found those before ,they are usually made of lead
With a plain stem/shank so I don’t think it’s one of those . I could be wrong though !

Hi
I agree, I'm not convinced it's a stud or mount; it seems a bit chunky, the projection doesn't look pointed enough.
I'm wondering if it's maybe a wheel/turning thing off something eg a gas lamp? The back looks like it may be part of a mechanism of something or other.
Just a thought [72/]
Cheers, Ruth

Thanks Ruth, It might be more modern than it looks so you could be right with it being a turning mechanism. Hopefully someone will recognise it .
